This cream cheese frosting is low in sugar, very easy and primal. There is no excuse to buy chemical-laden traditional frosting from a package when you can make this flavorful and adaptable recipe at home!
8 ounces full fat cream cheese
8 ounces light cream cheese (or full fat)
3-4 tablespoons maple syrup or raw honey*
1 teaspoon flavor extract (I used vanilla because I am very original)
Optional:
Splash of fruit juice for color**
Spices such as cinnamon or ginger
*The syrup adds a slight robust flavor, the honey adds a slight floral flavor. If you would rather not have these, you could try stevia or agave, while I can't vouch for it myself.
**I added cherry juice and it added a slight pink hue and a tartness that was lovely. I would love to try it with other fruit juices and maybe spinach or carrot juice in the future. Keep in mind that if you add too much, the frosting will not fluff up properly.
Primal is paleo with the inclusion of dairy. See marksdailyapple.com for information.
